Hibiscus Foundation for Social Welfare (HFSW) works actively towards creating a lasting impact by educating and creating awareness among young adolescents to inspire change in society. The foundation through its diverse projects empowers adolescents against exploitations and influences driven by tobacco industries. The campaign evidently grew multifold with the subsequent workshop ‘World No Tobacco Day’ bringing together over 25000+ students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds (different vernaculars) and from various schools to discuss and create awareness on the industrial tactics employed by tobacco companies to manipulate the market and create demand through addiction.
Students who participated in the workshops interacted with the facilitators on the experiences they’ve personally come across, and shared the negative impact of tobacco on the lives of people. The workshop inspired them to evidence their arguments with scientific knowledge and informed opinions while trying to create awareness in close circles about the ill-effects of tobacco. The use of vernacular language during the course of the workshop encouraged the students to openly voice their opinions, and also emboldened them to speak up against various industry tactics aimed at the young generation.
To aid this process, HFSW also provides pro-bono counselling services for those who seek to quit tobacco. The project continues to help and empower people by providing them the necessary tools required to quit addiction.
HFSW with WHO for World No Tobacco Day
Another one of our projects, the “Stress-Free Friday” project by HFSW offers free guided imagery sessions for all age groups. The project was partnered with the World No Tobacco Day team to provide free guided imagery and meditation sessions. These sessions help relieve stress through the use of alternate methods thereby helping people reduce their dependence on smoking for stress-relief measures.
To extend the impact of our operations, HFSW has partnered with the organization ‘Question Cloud’ an online education portal that helps students across the globe.Through this collaboration, we created a creative and interactive ‘No Tobacco’’ quiz to educate student-based audiences in schools and colleges and across the world on the ill effects of tobacco and its impact on a wider scale.
Our commitment to addressing tobacco and it’s damage can be seen through the numerous creative projects we’ve developed. HFSW has partnered with an up-and-coming musician to create a “No tobacco” rap song which has since had 1000+ views to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco. A ‘No-Tobacco Quiz’ filter was developed for instagram for users to interact and spread awareness on the topic.
We have also extensively conducted addiction awareness webinars with rehabilitation centers. HFSW is also in the process of creating a social game night that focuses on the theme of ‘No Tobacco’ so as to address key facts on the use of tobacco.
Our commitment to our goals can be seen in the impact we’ve had over the course of every project. Our campaigns continue to greatly impact peoples’ lives, and while we are immensely committed to them we are also working on developing new projects that would address other pressing issues.
